I’ve driven past Chen’s Happy Garden so many times but finally decided to stop in for lunch. I’m so happy I did, cause the food was great especially for the price, and portions. I had more than enough for lunch the next day. The lady that took our order was super nice, and on point with service. It’s a great lunch spot, and I’ll definitely be going back. The city has done a good job of cleaning up the homeless problem around this location.
We got the mandarin dinner for two and it was really good! A lot of food and really tasty! We worked hard all day on renovating our house and came here to rest and eat. It was wonderful.
Best Szechuan Chicken in the world. My teen loved the food. Great service! We been coming here for years.
The portions are huge. The food is very good and single person dinners cost between $ 13-$18 per person. They do have some vegetarian options. They also have dinner options for seniors at a reasonable low price.
Went for the first time, wasn’t my partners first time, and I loved it! Well it was very quiet and we were the only people too around 7pm so we got lucky, though the food was good but the egg flour soup was definitely my favorite. Our waitress was this young gentlemen and he had such a respectful calm and patient demeanor, would definitely go again!:)
I'm a resident of Phoenix, Arizona, but every time I visit my family in Eugene, I definitely make time in my schedule to stop here. The food is always hot with a fresh flavor, and large portions. I've never had them mess up an order, even large take out orders placed over the phone, and I haven't found a place on par to Chen's Happy Garden in Phoenix. My favorite go to is their Sweet and Sour Pork! Even their lunch portions leave me with plenty of food for take away.
I love Chinese food... and make it often. I usually prefer Sichuan food, but also love all of the Chinese American classics like sweet and sour, and General Tso's. I wanted some General Tso's and decided to check out Chens Happy Garden even though the review ratings were a bit low. I walked in, and was greeted and seated immediately. The location was clean, and setup pretty well. I ordered the General Tso's chicken lunch special and a cup of Hot and Sour soup, with water to drink. My water was brought to the table immediately, and the soup showed up just after that. Hot and sour soup was good, delicious even. It had a nice mix of standard hot and sour ingredients, tofu, woods ear fungus, bamboo shoots, egg flower, etc... and the flavor was good. Not spicy at all either. My General Tso's chicken arrived quickly also... and I noted that it was actually prepared with some chilis fried in the oil as it should be. Chilis were on top of the chicken as decoration. The chicken was crispy, and delicious... all white meat. The sauce was very good too... tasted as it should. This dish should always have a little bit of heat from peppers, since it is meant to be a little spicy. It had just enough spice to be noticeable, although not spicy for my palate (I love spicy food). Some people might find it a bit spicy though. Large portion too... YUM! The crab puff were good, just cream cheese in a wonton wrapper, not sure how much actual crab there was, lol. The BBQ pork fried rice was excellent, with a fair amount of Char Sui (Chinese BBQ Pork) in it, with a nice smoky flavor. Based on this one dish... I am surprised at the negative reviews. If the reviews are based on delivery orders, that may be due to the person delivering more than the actual dish, which I suspect. Prices are very reasonable too... Chatted with the Chinese gentleman that waited on me... and he was friendly and helpful.
Fairly good place. It's better to take to go. Call ahead highly recommended. They don't truly have a staff just the front person who takes phone orders, sit in and to go customers. Anyways they've been around for quite a few years so that speaks for itself.
